The City of Hartford provides one 95-gallon garbage cart per household or participating commercial user. Each cart will be numbered and assigned to a specific address. If more than one cart is needed, please contact City Hall at 334-588-2245 for cost of additional cart(s).
The cart is the property of the City of Hartford. If you move, the cart must stay at the current address. If the cart is removed from the assigned address, the cost will be deducted from the utility deposit on file.
If your cart is damaged through normal use, the City will repair or replace it at no cost to you. The City is not responsible for repair or replacement of the container when it is damaged because of customer abuse or neglect.
Your cart shall be placed street side by 6:30 am the morning of your garbage collection day. To prevent damage or theft of the cart, empty cart should be removed from curbside.
ALL garbage MUST be inside cart. Placing anything on top of cart will result in cart NOT being serviced. Call 334-588-2245 for additional information
Trash Pickup
The city will collect the following yard waste items:
- Limbs, no longer than four (4) feet in length and six (6) inches in diameter.
- Grass Clippings. Note: Do not put grass clippings in garbage bags.
- Brush and vines
None of these items shall be placed, swept or blown in the street, sidewalk or in a storm drain. If so, this is a violation of city ordinance and the resident or contractor will be issued a citation.
NOTE: Private individuals, landscaping and or commercial contractors will be responsible for removal of yard waste such as large shrubbery and trees. Before hiring someone to do work, please call city hall and verify they have a license with the city.
The city will not pick up waste that is generated by a paid private individual or a commercial contractor.
It shall be unlawful for any person to sweep, throw, or otherwise deposit or cause to be swept, thrown or otherwise deposited into or on any public street, alley, sidewalk, park, canal, stream, public water drain, sewer or receiving basin within the City of Hartford, Alabama.
Mixed items such as furniture, carpet, mattresses etc. will be picked up on Wednesdays.
The following items will not be picked up and are not accepted at the city landfill:
- Shingles
- Tires
- Metal
- Electronics
- Appliances
- Household Garbage
Street Department
The Street Division performs maintenance of streets, rights of way, and city owned property.
